Finding the right compositor for a 6-headed setup is hard. I tried Plasma 6 and Hyprland and am currently testing out Niri.
Using Plasma 6, while being one of my favorite desktop environments and using it on my laptop, was a hell on 6 heads. Managing all the windows, and manually positioning them everywhere was a great time loss. I know i could solve that with custom KWin scripts, but all in all i don’t think it’s the right environment for me.
As a former XMonad user, I’m very satisfied with Hyprland, but now that Niri is all the rage i wanted to try it out.
Currently I’m very skeptical of the whole scrolling approach, but I hope to be proven wrong in the next few weeks.
First Impressions
The scrolling is cool. Very cool. But i really dislike that each monitor has its own set of workspaces. That’s kind of a dealbreaker for me. Maybe I will adjust after a few weeks but currently I only find it cumbersome. Would recommend on single-headed systems tho.
